Renaissance man Little Steven Van Zandt comes up from the Underground Garage and moves from radio to TV, bringing rock and roll to the gridiron with a new opening theme song for the ESPN's Monday Night Football. Van Zandt and co-producer John Colby re-worked Hank Williams, Jr.'s song "All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight" for the rousing opener that will introduce this seasons 17 Monday Night Football NFL games beginning with the Sept 11th double header on ESPN.
Van Zandt also serves as musical director for the all-star genre crossing band which, in addition to Van Zandt and Williams Jr. includes Little Richard, Joe Perry (Aerosmith), Rick Nielsen (Cheap Trick), Bernie Worrell (Parliament Funkadelic), Clarence Clemons (E Street Band), Bootsy Collins (Parliament Funkadelic), ?uestlove (The Roots), Charlie Daniels, Angela Webster (The Believers), and Chris Burney (Bowling For Soup).
This isn't the first time Van Zandt and ESPN have worked together. Last New Year's Eve Van Zandt brought his Underground Garage A Go-Go to the Hard Rock Paramount Theater for a Rock and Sports New Year's Celebration on ESPN. Co-hosted by Van Zandt and Stuart Scott, it was one of the top rated shows of the night.
